Just saw the following on another forum - anybody tried this?

Want more power at no cost...look at the back of the exhaust if it has a small can (diaphram) with a rubber hose going to it,pull off the hose and block it with a screw or similar - I used a golf tee.
this stops the diaphram from closing the flap in one of the exhaust pipes, its only there to make it quieter when you accelerate, you will notice it is far more responsive.
P.S. this only works on twin exhaust outlets.

I have tried this, but found it only made the exhaust louder at lower revs. The butterfly valve is closed at lower revs to increase torque by increasing back pressure (so I have heard).I soon got annoyed by the booming, and re-connected the pipe again. In fact I reckon it's better connected!

The butterfly valve is closed at lower revs and idle, this is to increase torque by increasing back pressure, if you jam it open it will only make your exhaust louder at these lower revs and you will actually LOSE performance

You'll find these flaps in loads of cars nowadays, MG, VW, Audi, basically anything that is 'sporty'.
